Stitched With Stories, Sealed With a Hug

February 1, 2026 | Written by

During a Petal It Forward visit, we had the gift of spending time with Lois. What began as a simple delivery quickly became something much deeper. Lois welcomed us into her world, sharing stories stitched together by creativity, resilience and pride in a life well lived.

Lois showed us some of her handmade treasures, including her beloved Norwegian needlepoint.

She told us about her Hardanger, Norwegian needlepoint, a craft she has poured countless hours into over the years, even earning both blue and red ribbons at a cultural arts competition in Minneapolis for her work. She shared her love of quilting and proudly told us she is a published author, having written her life story. As we spent time together, she showed us photos of her family, each one opening another window into the chapters of her life and the people she loves most.

Lois is often described as stoic, a trait that can be attributed to her Norwegian roots. But as our visit came to a close, she reached out and asked for the most perfect hug. In that moment, everything softened. It was a beautiful reminder that our visits are not about flowers. They are about fellowship. About listening. About exchanging stories. About opening doors into one another’s lives and creating that simple but powerful feeling of mattering. Sometimes, it all comes together in one final embrace.

Through shared stories, quiet moments and simple acts of presence, Hope Blooms creates space for connection and reminds each person we meet that they matter.

You can create meaningful moments that help community members like Lois feel seen and valued.
