At SMP Maryhill in Enderlin, N.D., creating meaningful moments is part of everyday life.

Whether it be activities, conversations or time spent together, the staff at SMP Maryhill are committed to helping residents feel cared for, connected and valued. For Donna Orn, activity mission coordinator at SMP Maryhill, Hope Blooms’ mission reflects many of the same values that guide their work each and every day.

“Hope Blooms’ mission aligns beautifully with SMP Maryhill’s values of compassion, dignity, community and enhancing quality of life,” Donna shared. “We strive to create meaningful moments and bring joy to our residents each day. The kindness shown through the flowers and personal visits helps brighten residents’ days and reminds them they’re valued and remembered by their community.”

Every Hope Blooms visit brings more than bouquets. Volunteers spend time visiting residents room by room, sharing conversations and making sure everyone has the opportunity to receive flowers.

“The smiles, conversations and happiness they create are priceless,” Donna said. Those simple gestures leave a lasting impact. A bouquet can spark conversation, bring back treasured memories or simply remind someone they’re not alone. It’s a small act of kindness that creates meaningful moments for residents, families and staff alike.

Donna believes organizations like Hope Blooms play an important role in strengthening communities.

“Hope Blooms brings communities together, encourages volunteerism and creates moments of joy for individuals who may otherwise feel isolated or forgotten,” she said. “Supporting causes like Hope Blooms helps strengthen our communities and demonstrates the power of compassion and human connection.”

For Donna, flowers also carry personal meaning. Her favorite flower is the peony because it reminds her of home.

“My grandmother had peonies growing all over her farm, and my parents also had them planted throughout their yard,” she said. “Every time I see or smell a peony, it reminds me of family, home and some of my most cherished memories growing up.”

Every bouquet delivered by Hope Blooms has the potential to spark joy, create connection and remind someone they’re deeply cared for.

Through this partnership, residents experience moments of joy that brighten their days and remind them they are not forgotten. Hope Blooms is grateful for its partnership with SMP Maryhill and the opportunity to share kindness, connection and beauty with residents through every bouquet delivered.
