Community Partner Profile: Churches United

Churches United works to provide safe shelter, stable housing, nutritious food and a path toward healing for people experiencing hardship.
Serving the Fargo-Moorhead community, the organization brings together several programs under one compassionate umbrella. Micah’s Mission provides emergency shelter for individuals and families seeking safety and stability. The Dorothy Day Food Pantry offers nourishing food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Silver Linings Apartments provides permanent supportive housing for adults 55 and older who have faced chronic homelessness or long-term housing instability while Bright Sky Apartments offers permanent housing for families and individuals rebuilding their lives after homelessness.
The heart behind the work is what truly sets Churches United apart. More than a shelter, pantry or housing program, it is a community. Staff, volunteers and partners show up each day with deep compassion and a shared belief that everyone deserves dignity, warmth and the opportunity to rebuild their life.
Hope Blooms flowers have become small but meaningful moments of brightness throughout Churches United’s community. Since the partnership began in 2021, Hope Blooms has helped create nearly 3,000 moments of mattering for guests and residents through our Spark Joy program.
At Micah’s Mission, flower arrangements bring warmth and vibrancy into shared spaces throughout the shelter, helping create a more welcoming environment for individuals and families staying there.
Bouquets are also placed directly into the hands of community members receiving support through the Dorothy Day Food Pantry as well as residents living at Bright Sky Apartments and Silver Linings Apartments. These flowers offer a simple but powerful reminder that someone is thinking of them and that they are seen, valued and cared for.
Some of the most touching moments happen during flower deliveries. When bouquets arrive at Micah’s Mission, children staying at the shelter often rush over to help place the arrangements throughout the building. Many ask if they can keep a single stem. The smiles that follow are a powerful reminder of how meaningful even the simplest gestures can be.
Kindness and connection guide the way Churches United serves its community. These values shape how staff welcome guests, support one another and show up for the broader community. Every interaction centers on dignity, compassion and patience.
Flowers play a quiet but meaningful role in that environment of care. For many guests, a bouquet is more than decoration. It’s a reminder they are seen, valued and cared for. In the midst of challenging circumstances, the presence of flowers offers a brief moment of beauty and emotional rest — a gentle reminder that kindness still finds its way to them.
“Nothing brightens a space and spirits quite like Hope Blooms,” Stephanie, development director at Churches United, said. “We are so grateful for your generosity and the joy you bring to our community. Thank for helping us make things a little brighter at Churches United!”
Hope Blooms is deeply grateful for the partnership with Churches United and the opportunity to add small moments of care to the community they support each day.
