Meet Monica Sunderland, Hope Blooms Joymaker!

Communications Coordinator, Molly Johnson, shares this about Monica, “Monica’s bright smile and warm laughter always brings joy, whether helping around the shop, creating bouquets or with residents during a Petal It Forward delivery or Flower Empower activity. Her ability to truly connect with residents—listening, laughing and learning about them—is heartwarming to watch. We are so grateful to have Monica as a Joymaker!”

Volunteered since: 2023
How do you spend your time with Hope Blooms?
My volunteer time with Hope Blooms is spent making bouquets, processing flowers, making deliveries-including our Meals on Wheels partnership, occasional pick up of flowers from our generous donors, and doing “Flower Empowers,” where we help residents create their own floral bouquets at assisted living facilities/nursing homes in the area.

What do you love most about Hope Blooms?
I love that Hope Blooms truly embodies the “Fruits of the Spirit” : Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, gentleness,  and even self control.  Hope Blooms literally and figuratively delivers all of these things to those who come in contact with this organization.
What value do you see Hope Blooms bringing to our community?
Hope Blooms is a vital component in our F-M community and surrounding communities. It brings value to people’s lives, whether they are the recipient of flowers to let someone know they matter, as well as a creating a sense of community and family for those who volunteer.  I feel that I receive just as much from being a part of Hope Blooms, as those who are actually receiving the flowers.
What is your favorite flower?
My favorite flower is a carnation, it reminds me of childhood memories.  I love that carnations come in an array of colors and can also be dyed or tipped.  I enjoy the scent of carnations, and I believe the bonus is the longevity it has as a cut flower…it outlasts its competitors.
