Meet Josh Sayler, Hope Blooms Board Member!

Kelly shares, “We’re thrilled to have Josh join our board of directors! He is so kind and thoughtful, and his background in mental health will be an invaluable resource as we continue to grow and care for the emotional well-being of those we serve. We look forward to his contributions making a positive impact in our work.”

How are you involved with Hope Blooms?
I was fortunate enough to recently be accepted to serve on the Board! Outside of that I’ve been able to build a relationship with Hope Blooms through their outreach work to my employer, Prairie St. John’s via deliveries to our patients and staff.

How did you first hear about Hope Blooms?
A few years ago when Hope Blooms dropped off floral arrangements for our patients and staff. It was an amazing act of kindness I’ll never forget, especially due to the fact that we are a specialty hospital and often get left out of things meant to benefit the healthcare community.

Why do you choose to volunteer with Hope Blooms?
I wanted to become more involved with Hope Blooms due to the kindness and generosity that are at the core of the Hope Blooms mission.

Why is giving back in your community important to you?
I’ve worked in mental health for almost 20 years and I have witnessed firsthand how important a giving, kind community can be in assisting those who need it most. Talking about this importance was no longer enough for me and I wanted to be a larger part of it outside of my work.

In what ways do you see Hope Blooms bringing value to our community?
Hope Blooms is more than volunteer service and floral arrangements. It is building a community of kind, engaged individuals through selfless acts. When we care for others we care for ourselves and our community, which allows us to build the type of community we all can benefit from.

What’s your favorite way to spread joy and kindness?
I like to spread joy and offer kindness in different ways, many times with small gestures that to many people become large gestures. Telling people how much you appreciate them, what you admire about them, and how much you value them. Gratitude is critical to positive mental health and I try to express this each day. I’ve always enjoyed supporting causes as much as I can that bring value to our community. Every kid who knocks on our door selling something gets a willing buyer at our house. I can’t drive past a lemonade stand without purchasing a drink. My family knows how much I love and appreciate them. My co-workers know how much I value them.

Name one of the most joyful moments in your life.
The Chicago Bears winning the 1985 Super Bowl (we’ll forget the last 39 years). In reality, getting married and the birth of my children.

What is your favorite flower and why?
I’m partial to the Forget-Me-Not – I have this tattooed as a memorial to people I’ve lost and as a reminder to cherish those that are still in my life. I also really enjoy Stargazer Lillies – their beauty and uniqueness more than make up for the mess they create.

Share a little about yourself/your family.
I married my high school sweetheart, Kari. We started dating a month before I graduated in 1999. We are both NDSU alums and have made Fargo our home since 2000. We have two girls – Hadley (11) and Landry (3). We have Bison football season tickets (we bought them back in 2006 when you could still get them) and NDSU wrestling season tickets. We enjoy supporting the Bison any way we can, not just in athletics. My wife works for the NDSU Foundation and we have been married since 2006.

I am from Lefor, ND and I have 4 siblings (all married), and a sister-in-law who is married as well. I adore being an uncle. I really love spending as much time as I can with my wife and daughters. In my spare time I enjoy music and… more music I guess. On occasion I attempt to golf. My entire professional career has been spent working in the field of behavioral health.
