Board Member Spotlight: Jane Mattson
July 14, 2023 | Written by
Meet Jane Mattson, Hope Blooms board member. Jane brings so much joy and positivity to the board along with her background in accounting at Border States. She newly joined the board at the beginning of 2023, and we’ve been so grateful for her heart to serve, including her time to hand deliver bouquets to recipients.
Learn more about why Jane is passionate about Hope Blooms.
How did you first hear about Hope Blooms?
I had volunteered as part of the Women’s Leadership Program through my employer.
Why do you choose to volunteer with Hope Blooms?
There is such a beautiful energy that is generated and lives in Hope Blooms, and this flows through to each recipient of the arranged gift. Each bouquet is one of a kind — just like the person who receives it.
Why is giving back in your community important to you?
Showing love and kindness to those who may need it at a critical time (that you may not even see) is giving something that can be passed on to another. That act alone can change many lives.
In what ways do you see Hope Blooms bringing value to our community?
Hope Blooms has mastered the art of reclamation and repurpose to spread love, joy and kindness to those who truly need it most. This gift is so precious and can be enjoyed by not just the recipient but all who see it!
What’s your favorite way to spread joy and kindness?
Through a smile, a hug and kind words — along with a beautiful little bouquet!
Name one of the most joyful moments in your life.
Whenever I have been able to make a positive impact on someone else’s life, it fills me with joy. Making other people happy creates joy in me!
What is your favorite flower and why?
Prairie Rose is my favorite flower because it is native to North Dakota. I am the daughter of a dirt farmer — proud of my heritage and proud of farm life both the struggle and work. These roses appear for just a short time and grow in such tough soil and conditions, but they work through all of this and reveal their beauty to us. Truth be told, any rose has my heart!
When you’re not spreading joy with Hope Blooms, how do you spend your time?
Working with my team and working on my farm. I enjoy making plants grow and caring for animals. I enjoy nature and love to observe the beauty that is there.
What’s something that people would be surprised to find out about you?
I left a career to be an ‘at home’ mom for 12 years to be with my children before I came back and started a different career path. I just said the other day that being at home raising my children was the most favorite time of my life (so far!).
Share a little about yourself/your family.
My husband and I live on the farm that has been in my family for five generations. We have two adult children (Ben and Abby), who visit often, but manage to avoid pitchfork work at all costs! When I get home from my job, my hair is in a ponytail and I am outside!
