At Farmstead Living, care goes far beyond meeting daily needs — it’s about creating a place that truly feels like home.

Farmstead Living was founded in 2015 by Moorhead native Roger Erickson and built on the belief that every person deserves comfort, dignity and meaningful connection at every stage of life. Today, the locally owned assisted living community provides a full continuum of care, including assisted living, advanced care and secure memory care for individuals living with dementia.

Hope Blooms began serving Farmstead Living in 2017, and through our partnership, we’ve created nearly 1,800 moments of joy for their residents.

From the moment you walk through the doors, Farmstead Living feels warm and welcoming. Bright, open gathering spaces encourage conversation and community, while thoughtfully designed apartments help residents feel both safe and independent. Residents are encouraged to personalize their living spaces with familiar furniture, treasured keepsakes and the comforts of home — small details that make a meaningful difference.

One of the things that makes Farmstead Living especially unique is its commitment to helping residents age in place. Rather than facing unnecessary moves as care needs change, residents can continue living in a familiar environment surrounded by trusted caregivers and friends.

That sense of connection is one reason the team at Farmstead Living cherishes visits from Hope Blooms.

“We love it when Hope Blooms comes to Farmstead,” said Kayla Abele, Farmstead Living community manager. “The volunteers are daymakers, and their visits bring so much joy to our residents and staff!”

A simple bouquet can unlock cherished memories, spark conversation and bring comfort in quiet moments. Residents frequently share stories inspired by certain flowers or arrangements — reminders of weddings, gardens, anniversaries or loved ones from years past.

And while Hope Blooms flower deliveries bring smiles, their favorite activity is Flower Empower, where Hope Blooms volunteers help residents make a bouquet through a one-on-one interaction.

“The chatter and laughter are infectious,” Kayla said. “We love seeing the creativity and talent our residents possess.”

Those moments of laughter and togetherness reflect what kindness and connection mean at Farmstead Living. Whether through shared meals, activities, nursing care or everyday interactions, the goal is always the same: helping people feel seen, valued and cared for. In many ways, that shared commitment mirrors Hope Blooms’ mission — creating moments where compassion blossoms and people feel deeply cared for, connected and like they truly belong.

“At Farmstead Living, we’ve seen firsthand how small gestures — like flower deliveries — have a positive impact on the emotional and mental wellbeing of our residents,” Kayla shared. “These moments may seem simple, but they remind us of what truly matters: human connection, kindness and joy.”
