Meet Michelle Johnson, Hope Blooms Board Member!

We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Johnson to the Hope Blooms’ Board of Directors!

From volunteering, attending Hope Blooms’ events and being a community cheerleader for our mission, Michelle has been a supporter of Hope Blooms for numerous years.

Michelle believes in the importance of reminding people they matter and giving back to our community. With a vast array of professional roles, Michelle is able to bring insight, purpose and enthusiasm to the Hope Blooms’ board.

We’re so grateful to have Michelle join our team!

How are you involved with Hope Blooms?

I am a volunteer, and a longtime supporter of Hope Blooms.

How did you first hear about Hope Blooms?

I heard of it when I volunteered one afternoon with my team. I walked in and was instantly at home! It’s one of my favorite places to visit.

Why do you choose to volunteer with Hope Blooms?

I believe in Hope Blooms’ mission. It is so important that everyone knows that they matter.

Why is giving back in your community important to you?

Giving back is important to me because strong communities are built through care and shared responsibility. When I contribute my time, talent, or resources, I help create opportunities for everyone to thrive. It’s also a way to show gratitude for the support I have received. Investing in your community means investing in people, which makes a significant difference.

In what ways do you see Hope Blooms bringing value to our community?

Hope Blooms does more than provide flowers; it reduces isolation among seniors, fosters connection and joy, and offers a sense of worth to individuals experiencing homelessness. For those facing mental health challenges, their work promotes hope and emotional well-being through the simple act of giving. This creates a ripple effect of positivity that strengthens our community.

What’s your favorite way to spread joy and kindness?

My favorite way to spread joy and kindness is by encouraging and coaching others—I love helping people see their strengths and believe in themselves. I also enjoy giving thoughtful gifts; it’s my way of showing people they’re seen, appreciated, and cared for.

Name one of the most joyful moments in your life.

The most joyful moment in my life is anytime I am with my family, especially my nieces. They bring so much light and whimsy; I can’t wait to introduce them to Hope Blooms someday!

What is your favorite flower and why?

I have two favorites! I love lilacs in the Spring because they remind me of being with my sweet Grandma, Doris. She instilled in me a love of flowers that has lasted to this day.

I also LOVE the fuchsia plant. I worked at a seasonal flower shop for seven summers in my 20s, and they are such beautiful plants, but they can be temperamental. I have the most perfect spot for one on my deck, and I get one every year. I love how delicate and beautiful the flower is.

Share a little about yourself and your family.

I’m passionate about storytelling and creating meaningful connections that strengthen our community. As a lifelong learner, I recently completed a transformative leadership course through Dale Carnegie and continue to seek opportunities that inspire growth and purpose.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy crafting, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. My husband, Brian, and I have been married for 20 years and share our home with two rescue dogs, Gracie and Millie. I’m also a proud aunt to two wonderful nieces who live in Duluth. My career path has taken me through a variety of experiences—from working summers at a flower farm and shop to serving in both healthcare and communications roles—all of which have deepened my passion for blending creativity with community impact.
